Synopsis
Decades after their battle at the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament. Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence, now middle-aged, are once again martial arts rivals. During the filming of The Karate Kid, the late director John G. The team behind Cobra Kai searched through the studio’s archives and found a lot of never-before-seen footage that they were able to incorporate into the series in the form of flashbacks.
Interestingly though, the name given in Karate Kid II is not Miyagi’s original name
One of them shows Zabka’s real mother seen from different angles in the stands, which remained unpublished until 2018. Ralph Macchio told Uproxx there are three brand new angles to the famous crane kick. Many people believe that Miyagi’s name on his tombstone is a continuity error, as in Karate Kid 4 (1994) his name is listed as Keisuke, but before that a mark held for him by Chozen in Karate Kid 2 (1986) , Nariyoshi said. This means that The Next Karate Kid has changed its name, while Cobra Kai retains the name it was previously given.

In Karate Kid (1984), Miyagi’s first name is briefly Hideo on Miyagi’s dog tag, which is attached to the keys to the 1948 Ford that Daniel received for his birthday. Seen on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon: Anthony Mackie/Ralph Macchio/Kyrie Shabazz (2018). At first I thought it would be a funny kids show. But it’s not, any fan of the original trilogy will love this.
He is the absolute shooting star here!
Taking place 34 years after the events of the first film and the All Valley Karate Tournament in 1984, it follows down-on-his-luck Johnny Lawrence (William Zavala) as he tries to get his life in order and opens the famous Cobra Kai dojo. This renews his rivalry with the successful Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio). I can’t stress enough how good Zabka is here. It’s a shame he hasn’t become a bigger star over the years, because here he shows he can carry a show.
I promise you will love it!
